Having a desire to import a top quality Papillon into New Zealand’s show world, after a long wait and many calls to and from the UK, we were very fortunate to turn this desire into a unique opportunity to import the stunning UK Champion Papillon "Eng CH Sunshoo Imascarlet Oscars for Gleniren" (Oscar). This opportunity came about as Oscar, at the very young age of two, became a UK Champion and was in direct competition with his father "ENG CH Gleniren Scarlet Monogram" who in 2005 was the top Papillon of the year. Without hesitation, we accepted the offer with eager anticipation and the wheels were put in motion to have Oscar travel to New Zealand to join us here at Pillango Kennels. It wasn’t long and Oscar arrived in New Zealand from the UK’s top Papillon Kennels "Team Gleniren / Sunshoo" on the 19 January 2006 and started his successful show career in New Zealand on 11 February 2006 at the Gore and Districts Show, where he achieved Open and Reserve of Group.
Oscar went on to give consistent winning results that no other Papillon had achieved in New Zealand, with many judges commenting on his outstanding qualities. This was reflected by Oscar continuing to win a total of three “Best In Show at All Breeds shows” in the first year of his showing in New Zealand.
Oscars first “Best in Show” was under Mr G Robinson (South Africa) at the Southland Kennel Assn Show on the 4th November 2006, and then his second Best in Show was under Mr Kennith McMillan (NSW) at the South Otago Kennel Assn Show on the 3rd December 2006. Oscar achieved his third Best in Show under Mrs Gunter (NSW) at the Gore and Districts Show on the 10th February 2007. Oscar was officially acknowledged as a New Zealand Grand Champion on the 17th September 2007 once he had achieved the NZKC requirement for 50 challenge certificates and three BIS All Breed wins. This made him the first and, to date, the only Grand Champion Papillon in New Zealand.
Oscar carried on his winning by gaining a total of seven Best in Show All breeds and has 106 challenge certificates to his name. He has three “Reserve Best in Show All Breeds”, and he also has five Best in Specialty Show to his credit, along with multiple Best and Reserve of Group and many age in Show and Group wins.
